“Los Mandatos del Aire” (The Mandates of the Air) is the new solo album by peruvian flautist and composer Camilo Ángeles, created in dialogue with Musuk Nolte’s photographic series “Las Pertenencias del Aires” (The Belongings of the Air). Inspired by the visions evoked through ayahuasca ceremonies and the cosmology of the Amazon, this work transforms sound into a bridge between the visible and the invisible.
The music featured on this album presents a statement structured through a deconstructed approach to the flute and a deep exploration of ways to expand its sound spectrum, using a variety of analog electronic hardware to process the sound of the flute alongside resonant, spacious, dark, and complex fully acoustic melodic discourses recorded in a reverberation chamber. Extended techniques and preparations on the flute, different tuning systems and microtonalities, electronic processing, and hyper-amplification are some of the tools that shape this artistic statement.
